How it works

How we photograph a vow renewal in Lancashire

A vow renewal isn’t a legal ceremony, which is the best thing about it. You can do it anywhere. Some couples go back to the church they married in for a blessing, with the vicar who did the original service if they’re lucky. Some do it on the sand at St Annes in front of the pier, on Lytham Green by the windmill, or in the garden at home with a gazebo and a friend reading. The hotels do them too: the Grand at St Annes, the Clifton Arms in Lytham and Singleton Lodge will set the ceremony and the meal in the same building, which suits older guests.

Plenty of couples married in the seventies or eighties have a dozen prints in an album, taken by a friend. The brief is always the same: this time, get the photos. So we photograph the renewal like a wedding, with a lighter touch. The two of you arriving, the words, and the moment you turn round to face everybody.

Then we do the groups, properly. You and your original bridesmaids and best man, if they’re there. You with your children. You with the grandchildren. The whole lot together, which may be the first time the whole family has been in one photo. We work from your list so nobody’s missed. Twenty minutes and everyone’s back to their drinks.

Before the meal we take you away for ten minutes on your own. In Blackpool that’s a walk along the front with the Tower behind you; in the Ribble Valley, a lane with a dry-stone wall. Nowt fancy, and the photo you’ll frame.

If there’s no ceremony and it’s a family meal for a golden wedding, we come for the first two or three hours: the arrivals, the toast, the cake, and a portrait of the two of you before anyone has had too much wine. We cover Blackpool, the Fylde, Preston, Lancaster and the rest of Lancashire. Travel is free within 10 miles of Poulton-le-Fylde and 50p a mile after that.

How do we book?

Check your date, choose a package and pay a £100 deposit online. We hold a date for 7 days while you decide.

Do you charge for travel?

Travel within 10 miles of our base (FY6) is free. After that it’s 50p a mile, and we travel up to 60 miles.

Do you photograph same-sex weddings and every kind of celebration?

Of course.

Are you insured?

Yes. We hold public liability insurance and carry backup cameras and cards. Venues that ask for a certificate get one.

Do we get the photos on the night?

Add Same-Day Prints and 5, 10 or 25 of them, yes. The full gallery follows within six weeks.

Do we need a registrar for a vow renewal?

No. A vow renewal isn’t a legal ceremony, so a vicar, a celebrant, a friend or one of your children can lead it, anywhere you like. A church blessing needs the church’s agreement; a beach or a garden needs nobody’s.

Can we have two photographers like a wedding?

Yes. Book one of our wedding packages instead and you get Lee and Dom both, which suits a bigger renewal with a full day of guests. The event prices on this page are for one of us.
