Why we love photographing at Singleton Lodge

If you are planning a wedding at Singleton Lodge and want a wedding photographer who can be there in five minutes, that is us. We are based in Poulton-le-Fylde, FY6, and Lodge Lane is just the other side of the A585. We know this stretch of the Fylde well, from the lanes round Singleton to the river at Shard Bridge, and we know the lodge as a place that does small weddings properly rather than big ones badly.

The house is Georgian, from 1702, three storeys at the end of a drive off Lodge Lane, in five acres of parkland. It is a hotel with 14 bedrooms, so the people who matter can stay over, and the venue offers it on an exclusive-use basis for the day. The main dining room seats up to 80, which tells you the kind of wedding this is: everyone at the table knows everyone else. For us that is a good thing. Eighty guests means we have time for every one of them.

There are two licensed suites. The Viceroy Suite is the small one, for intimate ceremonies, and the Main Room is the larger. In the evening one of the larger suites takes the DJ or the band and the second one is used for a photo booth, with a quiet bar away from the music for anyone who wants it. After the ceremony the hotel serves champagne and canapes while guests mingle and we work, which is the natural moment for the family groups.

We cover Singleton Lodge on our standard wedding prices. Many couples here go for the half day from £599, which covers the ceremony, the groups and the drinks with both of us there, and our Micro & Register Office option on the weddings page suits a weekday ceremony in the Viceroy Suite. The drone can fly here, and the parkland is worth it.

Singleton Lodge wedding photography: how the day runs

  1. Morning

If you are getting ready in one of the bedrooms, the rooms have window light from one side. With a small wedding party one of us is enough upstairs. The other does the house, the flowers, the set tables and the guests arriving in the courtyard.

  2. Ceremony

The Viceroy Suite or the Main Room, depending on numbers. Both are country-house rooms rather than purpose-built ceremony halls, with low-ish ceilings and windows along one side, so we place ourselves with the windows behind us and use a touch of bounced flash if the day is grey.

  3. Drinks and photographs

Champagne and canapes in the gardens if the weather allows, with the old brick wall of the walled garden behind the groups. Then a walk out into the parkland for twenty minutes on your own, while your guests carry on.

  4. Breakfast and speeches

The main dining room, up to 80 at the tables. Speeches in a room this size are close and personal, and we cover them from two sides so you get the speaker and the reactions at the same time.

  5. Evening

The larger suite becomes the dance floor and the smaller one takes the photo booth. We photograph the first dance with off-camera flash, then step outside for a couple of frames of the house lit up. Same-Day Prints, if you have added them, are handed over in the dining room before the night is over.

Best photo spots at Singleton Lodge

  • The walled garden

Old brick, roses and a sheltered feel. The family groups go here, and it works at midday when the parkland is too bright.

  • The parkland

Five acres of open grass and mature trees. Best late in the afternoon, when the light comes in low from the west.

  • The courtyard

Where cars pull up and where guests gather. The arrival photographs and the confetti.

  • The front of the house

Three Georgian storeys. The classic wide shot with the two of you small in front of it, and the lit version after dark.

  • The drive from Lodge Lane

Tree-shaded and quiet. The walk back up it after the drinks reception.

Light and timing

The rooms at Singleton Lodge are country-house rooms: windows down one side, period ceilings, warm colours. Lovely to be in, and darker than they look on a camera. So we bring bounce flash for the ceremony on dull days and off-camera flash for the speeches and the first dance, set so it looks like the room and not like a flash. Outside is the opposite problem. The parkland is open, and in the middle of a summer day it is harsh, so we keep the groups to the walled garden where the brick wall gives shade and a backdrop, and we save the open park for late afternoon when the sun is low from the west. If it rains, the house itself is the plan: the staircase, the lounge with the log fire, the bar, and the windows. With 80 guests or fewer there is room to move people about without anyone noticing.

Drone

The drone can fly at Singleton Lodge. Little Singleton is clear of restricted airspace: the edge of the Blackpool Airport zone is about 5 km to the south-west, and Warton’s zone is about 7 km to the south. No permission is needed. The house, the drive and the parkland from above give you the wide shot the ground cannot. We check Drone Assist on the day, keep 50 metres from your guests and away from the road, and we refund the drone if the weather stops us. Add the flyover for £149 with photography. See our drone page.

Questions about photographing a wedding at Singleton Lodge

Is Singleton Lodge still open for weddings?

As far as we can tell, yes. The freehold was put up for sale through Savills in November 2025, but the hotel has carried on trading, holding wedding open days and taking bookings through 2026. If you have booked, your contract is with the hotel, and if anything changes we will work with whoever runs it.

Do we need two photographers for a wedding of 60?

You get two whatever the size, because that is how we work. At Singleton Lodge it means one of us is with you at the Viceroy Suite door and the other is already inside with your guests, and the speeches get covered from both sides.

Can you fly a drone at Singleton Lodge?

Yes. No restricted airspace nearby. It is an optional add-on at £149 with photography, refunded if the weather stops us.

Where do the couple photographs happen?

The walled garden during the drinks, then the parkland late in the afternoon. Two short trips, ten minutes each, and you are back with your guests.

Can we add Same-Day Prints?

Yes. One of us edits during the wedding breakfast and hands the folders over in the dining room before the night is over. They are an optional add-on from £69.
