Bashall Barn Wedding Photographer
Bashall Barn wedding photographer: two of us for the day at the exclusive-use barn on a working dairy farm at Bashall Eaves, with the Brook Room, the woodland oak pergola and 11 bedrooms on site.
Why we love photographing at Bashall Barn
If you have booked Bashall Barn and you are after a Bashall Barn wedding photographer, this is our take on the place. It is on Twitter Lane at Bashall Eaves, two miles out of Clitheroe on the Bowland side of the Ribble, on a family dairy farm that is still milking. The buildings started as a farm shop and café in 2011 and have grown into an exclusive-use wedding venue with its own bedroom barn, and because it is one wedding a day the whole place is yours from the morning to the last taxi.
The ceremony has three homes. The Brook Room is the indoor one, neutral, with bi-fold doors that open the whole wall so it feels half outside. The balcony off it is the second. The third is the woodland garden, where you say your vows under an oak pergola at the water’s edge with the guests on wooden benches down a rough aisle. The Dining Room takes 50 to 130 for the breakfast and the evening party takes up to 250, with the Brook Bar and a built-in sound and lighting system the DJ plugs into.
Two photographers as standard is how we work. Here it means one of us is in The Prep with the dress and the three big mirrors while the other is in The Den with the lads and the table football, and we both come out for the walk to the pergola. Full Day Bashall Barn wedding photography is £1,049 on a weekday and £1,295 at the weekend; the rest is on the prices page. We are based in Blackpool and the Ribble Valley is one of our regular runs.
Bashall Barn wedding photography: how the day runs
-
Morning
The wedding suite has a roll-top bath and a getting-ready area with three large mirrors and plenty of daylight, and it opens straight into the ceremony room, so the walk in is short. The Den is the other side’s room. If your guests stayed in the Bedroom Barn the night before, breakfast is at half nine and we catch the end of it.
-
Ceremony
In the Brook Room we open the bi-folds if the weather lets us, so you are lit by the sky and the view is behind the registrars. One of us is at the front, one at the back. Under the oak pergola it is woodland and water behind you and benches either side, and the guests get the wide view. The balcony is the small-ceremony option with the same view. The registrars decide on the day if it has to come inside, and the Brook Room is right there.
-
Drinks and photographs
Drinks and canapés go in the woodland garden, by the pergola or by the old tractor. The groups go on the lawn with the fells behind. Then we take the two of you off for ten minutes along the water and round the farm buildings, cow sheds and all, because that is what the place is.
-
Breakfast and speeches
The Dining Room. There is a microphone and projector for the speeches, so nobody is shouting. We shoot from both ends, one for the speaker and one for the reactions.
-
Evening
Up to 250 come in for the evening. Fire pits and the fairy-lit trees outside, the Brook Bar and the dance floor inside. There is no sound limiter, so the band or the DJ can go. Our Full Day runs to the first dances, and we nip out at sunset with the two of you for the hills.

The oak pergola at the water's edge
The woodland garden with the brook. The ceremony spot and the best place for the two of you on your own.

The Brook Room with the bi-folds open
Sky light and the valley behind. Good for the ceremony and for a quiet one before the guests come in.

Off the Brook Room, looking out over the valley. Groups of the two families and the sunset.

The farm bits. Groomsmen, bridesmaids and the fun ones.

After dark. A couple of frames with the lights behind you on the way back in to the dance floor.

The lawn with the fells behind
The big group and the confetti, with the Bowland hills as the backdrop.
Light and timing
Bashall Barn is built to look at the view, so the Brook Room, the balcony and the glazed side of the building all face out over the valley and get open sky rather than hard sun on the glass. That gives us lovely, even light for the ceremony with the bi-folds open and means we do not need flash until the evening. The pergola is under trees by the water, so it is shaded and green, which is kind to faces even at one o’clock on a bright day; we expose for you and let the water glow behind. The farm buildings give us hard shadow and texture when we want it. The Dining Room is a big interior and we bring flash for the speeches if the day is dull, bounced so it still looks like daylight. Sunset is over the Bowland side and the balcony is the place to watch it; the fairy-lit trees and the fire pits take over after that, and a mono light does the first dance. Rain plan: the bi-folds shut, the Brook Room still has the view, and the barn doors and the tractor are a two-minute dash under a brolly. We bring two cameras each, flash, a stand light and boots, because it is a farm.
Drone
Bashall Barn is clear on airspace. There is no flight restriction zone in the Ribble Valley; Warton aerodrome is about 34 km to the west and Blackpool Airport about 41 km. It is a working dairy farm, though, so we agree the take-off spot with the venue and keep well away from the stock and the sheds. The shot is the barn in its fields with the brook and the fells behind, and Pendle Hill across the valley. The drone is £149 added to your photography.
Questions about photographing a wedding at Bashall Barn
Where are the best photos at Bashall Barn?
The pergola by the water for the two of you, the lawn with the fells behind for the big group, the balcony at sunset and the tractor and barn doors for the fun ones. After dark, the fairy-lit trees.
Can you cover both of us getting ready?
Yes. The wedding suite and The Den are both on site, so one of us is in each and we meet at the ceremony room.
Can the drone fly at Bashall Barn?
The airspace is clear, but it is a working dairy farm, so we agree where to take off with the venue and keep away from the cows. We do the asking.
What if the pergola ceremony is rained off?
The registrars make the call and it moves into the Brook Room, which has the same view through the glass. Nothing changes for us.
Can we have prints on the night?
Yes, as an optional add-on. We hand them over in the Dining Room before the night is over, from £69 for five. See the Same-Day Prints page.
